Lag Proximity

The Lag Proximity drill has been designed to emphasize distance control from graduated distances.  The red dots on the diagram indicated tees that can be used to form the half circle behind the hole.  If you would like to make the drill a bit easier then you can create a full circle, but everyone is encouraged to use the half circle in order to encourage using “makeable pace” with the end result being that the ball ends up slightly behind the hole if it is not made.  Set a goal for how many balls you want to end up in the target area before moving onto the next station.

The easy version of this drill is to meet your goal then move back to the next station without penalty for not meeting your goal.  If you would like to ramp up the difficulty slightly then you can make a rule that requires you to start back at 10 feet anytime you do not accomplish your goal at a station.  Consider using the following goals to help get you started while still optimizing learning potential:

  • 10 feet – 5 putts in a row inside of the target area
  • 20 feet – 4 out of 5 putts inside of the target area
  • 30 feet – 3 out of 5 putts inside of the target area
  • 40 feet – 2 out of 5 putts inside of the target area
  • 50 feet – 1 out of 5 putts inside of the target area
