8 Iron Challenge
The 8 Iron Challenge is a simple drill that has plenty of potential to increase difficulty by making slight adjustments to the clubs that are used as well as the order in which they are used. The basic version of the 8 Iron Challenge is to chip 30 balls with the goal of making 15 of them into the hole. You will want to set yourself up at least 2 paces off of the green with a total distance to the hole of 10-12 paces. 8 iron lands 1/4 of the total distance, an important figure to understand as you establish where you intend to land the ball. Use the following variations and/or rules to take the 8 Iron Challenge from a basic practice exercise to a complete mental gym…
- Alternate between 8 iron and PW
- Chip two balls with 8 iron and one with PW, repeat the pattern for the entire 30 balls
- Chip one ball with 8 iron then two balls with PW, repeat the pattern for the entire 30 balls
- Chip one ball with 8 iron, one ball with PW, and one ball with GW, repeat the pattern for the entire 30 balls
