3-6-9

3-6-9 is a very traditional putting drill in terms of the setup and execution. This is a great way to start a practice session or to sharpen your mind as you prepare for a tournament round. Be carefull to not add too many repetitions to this drill as it is simply meant to be used as a beginner type drill. Too many repetitions will reduce learning potential as well as wear out the green in a small area.
Place a tee or coin at 3 ft, 6 ft, and 9 ft along the same line for an uphill putt. Your goal is to make 3 putts in a row from 3 ft, 3 in a row from 6 ft, and 2 out of 3 from 9 ft.
If you want to add difficulty to this drill you can change to a line for a breaking putt as well as a downhill putt. You can also add repetitions to make it 10 in a row from 3 ft, 10 in a row from 6 ft, then 8 out of 10 from 9ft.
If you miss at any station you will need to start over at the 3 foot mark.
Staggered 3-6-9
Staggered 3-6-9 is an adaptation of the original drill in order to introduce some randomization to the exercise. Rather than all three putts being along the same line as they were in 3-6-9 you can see by the picture that all three putts for this drill are along different lines. You can apply the same repetition rules as you did for 3-6-9 to increase challenge, but again, be careful with how many repetitions you apply to each station.
If you miss at any station you will need to start over at the 3 foot mark.
